Windows to the Universe

The Windows to the Universe site provides a great simple explanations about planets, stars, space, and scientific concepts within astronomy.  Under the “Just Fun” tab, there are games and other activities that you can enjoy while learning a scientific process or information! This site has all sorts of useful and interesting information on it from the basic science of the Sun and Earth to mythology, art, and culture around astronomy.

Astronomy for Beginners

Description: Astronomy For Beginners brings together an expanse of info into manageable size to begin learning about astronomy.  There is useful information about astronomy in general, and some handy links to other relevant pages. If you’re interested in astrophotography you can have a look at the pictures the site author took, upload your own, and learn how to do it in the astrophotography section. Also, you can find info about what sort of equipment to buy, what to look for in a telescope, and where to point the thing once you’ve got it!

Stellarium

Downloadable Planetarium for 3D star studying.  Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope. It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

Sky Maps

SkyMaps provides free downloadable Star Charts that can show you what stars, planets, and other objects are in your sky. Make sure you have one for your hemisphere and time of year.
